At the moment all GDC registrants are required to make sure there are adequate and appropriate arrangements in place so that patients can claim any compensation they are entitled to.

There are 3 ways in which a dentist can comply with this requirement

  • Membership of a medical defence union which includes professional indemnity insurance
  • NHS indemnity. This only applies where work is done on behalf of a NHS body. It will not cover work done as part of a dental practice even if the patients are NHS subsidised
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance bought in the insurance market

We provide professional indemnity insurance for dental practices. As broker s we use a number of competing insurers to make sure that you get a good deal.

The policies we provide will cover  the practice, all its' partners directors and employees

The policy will cover your legal liability for damage and injury suffered by your patients. It will also include the cost of defending a disciplinary issue brought by the GDC

Cover is on a "claims made" basis. That means the policy will cover any claim first notified to you while the policy is in force.

For example you did work 5 years ago which your patient alleges was negligent and is now causing a problem. You need to have the policy in force when the patient first makes the allegation to you. So in effect the policy you have today will cover work done in previous years.
